I love fall. Like, I REALLY love fall- the cozy accents, the yummy tastes and smells, the amazing pops of color, and the soft glimmer of candles. Speaking of candles, today I’m going to share a quick and fun DIY I did to make some extra warm and textured candlesticks that are perfect for fall.
I had a group of 8 candlesticks sitting in a box in my storage closet in the basement. I purchased them from the thrift store several years ago for my sister’s wedding shower for only a few bucks total. They were glass, almost a crystal-like appearance, and while I thought they were pretty, they never seemed to mesh well into my personal style… until recently that it is! A few weeks ago, I discovered the amazing power of metallic copper spray paint. The brand I used for this project was Krylon, but I’m sure there are others out there as well that are great too. I decided after painting (and loving) some mason jars in the copper paint, that maybe a nice copper finish on these candlesticks would be just the thing to make these candlesticks perfect for my fall decor. So, I ran to my local Hobby Lobby, grabbed my 40% off coupon, purchased a can, and got to work.
After giving the candlesticks a good cleaning to make sure no dust or remaining candle wax was on them, I gave a few light coats of even spray on them, and that’s it! They went from looking like formal pieces to cozy, casual accents that blend perfectly with the warmer tones of the season. I will be sharing a fun tablescape with them soon for you guys, but for now they’ve made a little home here on my bookshelf in my entryway. Paired with some vibrant pops of color, some vintage books, a few white pumpkins, and other antique knickknacks, they help make a pretty vignette to enjoy all season. Have a few candlesticks you aren’t loving anymore? Maybe a quick spray paint refinish might be just what you need to update them into something you’ll love again!
Ready for a few little tricks? I like to first take a lighter, or match, and warm a small amount on the base of the candle. I place them in the holder immediately and it helps to hold your candle better in place. Second, I like to take my lighter and simply (and quickly) melt small sections at a time around the top of the candle. The more you do that in increments around the top, the more of those amazing dripping effects you get without having to actually burn your candles for longer periods of time. The more you “layer” the dripping wax onto other dried drips, the more dramatic the effect. Now, your candlesticks are picture perfect and ready for any fall display!
Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I look forward to sharing some more fun content with you soon!
