I can’t believe I finally get to type this, but welcome to Hatfield & Home!! It has been a long time coming, and I am so excited to finally be able to fully share what I do and create. Thank you so much for checking out my new website. I’m so glad you’re here! So let’s jump on in and get started on my first ever blog post!

If you’ve known me for any length of time, you’ll know that one of my favorite ways of transforming a space is by refinishing furniture. There is something so exciting and fulfilling in seeing pieces I refinish scattered throughout my home. If you’ve ever refinished a piece in your home, you know the feeling! They become unique pieces to you, and they tell your own story of your home. Today, I’m sharing a fun new piece that I recently worked on, and the neat part about this one in particular is that it came from the home of some great friends of ours! This dresser was headed to curb, so naturally I had to snag it and have some fun with it. Thank goodness these friends understand my incessant need to pick from the curb haha.

First things first, I had to clean this dresser and air out those drawers. It had been sitting in a garage for a while and I wanted to make sure those drawers were rid of any musty smell and that no cobwebs made their way into my paint haha. I used Simple Green to clean it all up, then let the drawers sit outside for a few days, and placed a few dryer sheets in the drawers to help freshen them up even more. On a family trip to Indiana a few weeks ago, I came across the perfect paint color for this piece, a color I had never used before called Country Grey. I’m a huge lover of Annie Sloan chalk paint, and while I’ve used her paint dozens and dozens of times, this particular color was new for me to use. It’s the perfect mix between grey and beige.

I wanted the look of this piece to be somewhat “unfinished” and wasn’t quite as much of a perfectionist with it as I usually am. I love to let each piece speak for itself, and this one felt like a casual look would be best with all of it’s perfectly imperfect dents and scratches. And although I almost always wax my pieces to seal them, I thought this was perfect without it. With it already being dented up, choosing to not seal it (although I may decide to at some point) didn’t seem like an issue. Again, casual with natural wear and tear was the goal.

I realized pretty quickly that this dresser would actually look quite fun in my dining room. I’ve been looking for a unique piece to set in here and use as a buffet table at the end of the room. I think this one works well for now. It provides a balance from some of the more formal pieces I have in here. I styled it up for fall with some white pumpkins, dried oat stems, some copper mugs, and a yummy apple scented candle. Hello, cozy dining room! I was also recently given some old wooden plate hangers and decided one of them would make for a fun pumpkin stand. It helps break up all of the lighter colors and adds some extra warmth and texture that is perfect for fall. I have a full box of them and plan on using them for photo frames for a gallery wall in the future, but in the meantime, I get to experiment with some unique ways of using them. I couldn’t ask for more haha. Let me know in the comments below what you think of this new dining room “buffet” and some fun ways you’ve transitioned your dining room for the season!
Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my latest refinishing project! And an extra thank you for sharing in this new journey with me! I’m so excited you’re here.

I fell in love with this as soon as I saw it! I love the larger knobs on the front. It turned out lovely!
