I spent my morning in our backyard with a cup of maple pecan coffee, my sweet snickerdoodle (my nickname for Charlie), and cleaning up some of the last remaining leaves on the lawn. I always have a love/hate relationship with raking the leaves. They are the last remnants of my favorite season. Now, the bare trees will soon begin to usher us into a new season. The one thing that remains beautiful outside? The evergreens. I sure do love the beauty that those greens provide this time of year. While everything is brown or dead, they are the hint of life outside that stays with us all season. And using those greens in my home this time of year is oh so merry. But finding realistic, beautiful faux greens to use for the winter/Christmas season can be difficult. So when I found this stunning wreath at Hobby Lobby, it became my new favorite piece of Christmas decor. I decided it would be perfect to use it this year in our entryway (and other areas of my home, as you’ll soon see).
In fact, I love this wreath so much that when I found these old shutters at the curb a few months back, my first thought was how perfect they would be painted black and paired with this wreath hanging over them. Maybe I sound crazy, and I probably am, but I could not wait to hang this wreath over these shutters this year. Now that I have it all together, I am a happy camper. It was the perfect touch of Christmas (or winter, really) for this space. I had this frame I found a few years back at an antique store that I thought would be great with this vignette as well. It helps to break up the darker tones, centers the wreath, and adds some beautiful charm.
I wanted to keep this space minimal this year. In year’s past, I had flooded this area with Christmas decor. I think it’s likely because I am still looking for the ideal furniture piece to fill up that wall, and adding lots of Christmas decor helped fill it all in. I’ve placed multiple trees against that wall, one of which you can see more of here, and a myriad of other decor items. This year, I’m leaning toward the “less is more” route. The wreath, those fabric trees, the little wooden sled, some faux greens on the side, and mini wreath on the bottom shelf are really the only seasonal items here right now. And since they are neutral, they blend in seamlessly with everything else. That’s what I really wanted for this space: something festive, but relaxing. If I really want to add more Christmas to this vignette later on, I can simply add a Christmas ribbon to the wreath and maybe some battery powered lights. Or maybe even scatter a few ornaments around the shelves. Christmas decor can sometimes feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.
These adorable little fabric trees I found at a holiday flea market last year. The moment I saw them, I knew they had to come home with me. The vendor is Olde Stable & Co., and I will be sure to look for them in future markets! Their products were amazing and so creative! They made these trees with lots of different fabrics, and I would have brought them all home with me if I could have haha.
Our entryway is nowhere near where I want it yet. We have lots of work we would love to do here: wainscoting, other trim work, maybe some sconces, and potentially an antique cabinet. I found my dream one not long ago at an antique shop that was technically just there for styling purposes. I decided to ask the owner anyway what they would like for it. I should have bought it there and then. I decided to “sit on it” while I made sure it was exactly what I wanted for the space. Once I was positive, I drove up there to the shop only to find out someone else had the same idea and jumped on it more quickly than I did. Lesson learned. I was so excited to decorate it for Christmas too haha. Now I’m on the hunt again for the perfect piece for this space. For now though, I love to decorate this bookshelf up for the seasons. This was also a market find, but looking at it, I think it could be quite simple to replicate. Who knows, maybe we will make our own cabinet with a similar design? That could be quite fun…for me, not Ryan haha.
However, or whenever, you are choosing to decorate for Christmas this year, I hope you found even a little bit of inspiration from this small space. Christmas decor doesn’t always have to be loads of red, glittery objects, and lights on every surface. As much as I truly love all of that, sometimes something a little more minimal feels just right. With that said, I have lots of fun ideas for Christmas that I am excited to implement and share soon. Thank you so much for visiting today!
