“Oh look, another glorious morning. Makes me sick!” Can you guess the film? If you can, you probably love Halloween too! Maybe it’s the childhood memories, the nostalgia, or just all that delicious candy, but Halloween is just such a favorite time of year for me. Thinking about the quickly approaching day got me thinking about some simple, fun ways to decorate for it this year.

Again, I love Halloween, but decorating for Halloween? Never been a huge lover of it. Usually a simple jack-o-lantern here or there on the porch is as crazy as I get. My guess is, I just don’t want Halloween decor to overpower my fall decor. So, I came up with an idea that blended both in without it feeling too overwhelming or clashy.
Cue in the DIY Halloween art. I was rummaging through my storage closet the other day looking for my limited supply of Halloween items when I pulled out this fun tea towel that I picked up in the Target dollar spot several years ago. I was thinking about placing it in the kitchen as usual, but then I realized that this might actually make a unique piece of art! It’s 100% cotton and quite thin so I imagined that it would look great in a frame. I have some frames that I usually use to switch out seasonal art with and thought they would be perfect for this DIY project. (P.S. You can get some great frames from the dollar store too if you ever need some and don’t have extra laying around. Painting them can also make them fit your aesthetic more if need be). All I had to do for this project was measure out the fabric and cut it to size. And luckily for me, this tea towel had two ravens on it, one on each end. So double, double, toil and trouble it is! Sorry, I couldn’t resist ha!

I cut out each end according to size, and placed them in the frames. The fabric held well on it’s own in the frame, but if I was having problems with it sliding around I would just throw some tape on the back to secure it in place. That’s it! Super easy, super simple, and now I have two new Halloween art pieces that blend seamlessly with my fall decor. I have one of them displayed here on my mantle in my living room.

I have yet to decide where the other will go, but I’m positive I’ll find a good home for it as the holiday gets closer. I styled this one with some fall stems, some deliciously drippy candles (the candlesticks are from a thrift store), and a few pumpkins. And if you’ll notice, I’ve used that canister and those stems before to create a display. I’m always trying things in new places. It’s keeps my creative juices flowing and simultaneously allows me to make entirely new vignettes without spending any extra money. I should share more in depth about those black shutters another time, but I will say that they were a garbage pick from a house renovation down the street. A quick coat of paint spruced them up perfectly. You can’t beat local and free, especially when it’s original to a home in the area.
Have some tea towels or other festive fabrics that you think would make some great art? Placing them in frames to display is such a simple way to add to your seasonal/holiday decor. And once the season changes, you can easily change it up! Maybe I’ll be throwing some Christmas tea towels in there before too long?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick little DIY today (and Charlie recommends you go enjoy a piece of Halloween candy!). Oh, and if you’re still wondering about that quote, it’s from Hocus Pocus. Have a great day, everyone and thank you for checking out the blog today!

I love it, Jill! So simple anyone could do it! It really looks perfect for a little added “creep” for the fall season.
Thank you! Easy is always the best way to go in my book. I’m keeping an eye out for some Christmas ones that will be good to use next!
