Christmas is over, the new year is here, and the long, cold winter sits before us. For many, this season can bring anything but joy. The bitter cold, the short days, the heaps of snow, and bare trees can make us feel dreary and hopeful for brighter days ahead. But the truth is, this season actually has some good to offer us. It’s a time that forces us to slow down. It calls us to gather more with our families and relax in all the comforts that home has to offer. As a person who struggles greatly with slowing down, this season is actually a welcome relief for me. It helps me to calm down and focus on those details of life that can easily be overlooked in the busyness of the other seasons. It also allows me to create an extra level of comfort in my home. Today, I am sharing how I implemented that in our breakfast nook.

This cozy little space is one of my favorites in my home. It sits in the back of my home, but it is one of the first places you see when you walk in the front door. And when it comes to adding a sense of style and comfortability, no room is left unattended. We often think of cozying up our living spaces and bedrooms, which is always a great idea in this season, but I think it can also be an added benefit to cozy up our dining spaces as well. We gather a great deal in this little room, and making it comfortable during the winter is highly important to me.

In here, I added elements of green, the soft glow of candles, and implemented warmth and texture with blankets. Yes, you can enjoy your dinners with a cozy blanket! I mean, why not? There are no rules when adding comfort to your spaces. And adding candles is almost a must. They add so much to enhance our senses, visually and fragrantly. Candles with scents that remind us of home are my favorite to light during the winter.
For the centerpiece, I used a tray filled with pinecones and pillar candles. I generally don’t light those ones, so they are safe to keep around the pinecones. I also added some faux evergreen stems in an amber jar to bring some elements of winter inside without it feeling too “cold”. This space now enjoys the warmer tones with the wooden chairs, the pinecones, the textures, and the candles. It’s just enough to help beat those winter blues when the cold bites harder than usual. Add your favorite hot beverage and your space is ready to enjoy during this beautiful season. What are some of your favorite ways to incorporate that extra level of comfort during the winter? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and happy new year!

So cozy and inviting!
