I love Independence Day. It’s a wonderful time to celebrate the birth of our nation and our freedoms. I love the patriotic energy, the cookouts, fireworks, and time spent with family. I also enjoy all the red, white, and blue decor that dots the landscape of our neighborhoods, local shops, and homes. As much as I love this holiday though, I am not one to typically decorate elaborately for it. I tend to prefer simpler, more toned-down decor that blends naturally into my everyday decor. So today, I am sharing how I added some patriotic pieces that blend well into my dining room for the holiday.

When I think of decorating for the fourth, I think of historic pieces. I love to mix my antiques with my patriotic decor to create that aged appearance to the space. To start, I laid down a blue and white striped table runner. I then added two flags to an antique jug. It’s simple, yet makes a statement. I usually like to keep my holiday decor more on the subtle side, more of a “muted” display. It helps to make my everyday decor and holiday decor feel more natural and cohesive.

I am a collector of vintage and antique books, and for this display, I simply took a few old books that were red or blue and used them as added elements of decor. It’s a very “quiet” way to add in those extra hints of patriotic color without it overwhelming the space. I placed one on top of a white farmhouse scale and the other under a white painted mason jar with two more American flags. Simple, easy, and still festive for the holiday.

And there you have it: a simple way to add some Fourth of July decor to your home. Some people love to go all out for the holiday, and, if that’s you, I think that’s great! I love how differently we all choose to decorate because it is such a reflection of our individual selves. But I know for me in my home, subtle works best. I sometimes feel the need to add decor pieces that I don’t always love in order to be festive. But there are numerous ways to be festive without compromising your own personal style. Not every holiday needs to have elaborate decor to be enjoyed, sometimes just subtle hints are really all you need to enjoy your patriotic spaces and the time with your loved ones around you. I hope you enjoyed these simple Independence Day decorating ideas! Are you more of a “muted” holiday decor person or do you prefer the more vibrant decor? I’d love to hear in the comments below. Have a great Independence Day!
